Hiking Kauai's South Shore

Seeing as how 90% of Kauai is inaccessible by road, it is only logical that much of the beauty of the island lay hidden within this area. What better way to enjoy these natural wonders first-hand than a good hike!

One of the many famous hiking destinations is Kipu Falls. Kipu Falls is the sight one of the famous water fall scenes from Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. Take a look for yourself, and find out just why it is that they decided to film part of one of hollywoods most famous movies at this location. Aside from being the sight of a hollywood movie, Kipu Falls is one of the many natural beauties to be enjoyed on the south shore.

If a walk in the jungle doesn't appeal to you, try a walk on one of the many south shore beaches. The Mahaulepu Heritage Trail is a spectacular 4 mile round trip coastal trail. It begins at the east end of Poipu Resort near the Grand Hyatt Kauai, and ends at Mahaulepu Beach. It's a simple hike with an almost constant view of the ocean.

No matter where the trail takes you, you can be certain that you will be surrounded by nothing but natures finest beauty. Every square inch of the island is nothing short of breathtaking, and the south shore is certainly no exception.
